The growth of Indian economy is due to the development of infrastructure sectors including energy, transportation, industry etc and welding plays a major role in all these areas. The Indian welding industry is poised to grow along with the Indian economy at an even faster pace. In order to take stock of the various developments and their applications in this sector IWS, has fixed a relevant theme “Productive Welding – the Emerging Scenario” that includes developments in the fields of Science and Technology in various spheres of Industrial applications. The Symposium aims at reviewing the achievements in the recent past as well as forecasting the Productive Welding trends in general and in the following areas in particular:

• Advanced Welding processes and equipment including Lasers, EBW Friction Stir etc.
• Robotics and Automation in Welding
• Characterizations of the effects of welding like stress, distortion and mechanical properties. Information Technology as applied to welding including Computer simulation and Modeling. Hard facing & Reclamation Technologies.
• Training & Education – the need for the future.

Invitation to Authors
Authors are invited to send original contributions and abstracts of their paper to be presented at the Symposium. As a policy, the organisers invite original contributions in a field that has not been presented elsewhere. The abstracts are to be sent to the address below to reach on before 15^th October 2004 and full text of the paper by 20^th December 2004 as per guidelines, on acceptance of the abstract.
